Professor Bourema Dembélé is a Malian cardiologist, academic leader, and clinical researcher dedicated to advancing cardiovascular medicine in Mali and across West Africa. He serves as a Professor of Cardiology at the Faculty of Medicine and Odontostomatology of the University of Bamako, where he contributes to the training of future physicians and cardiology specialists while actively participating in clinical and academic research.
Prof. Dembélé is also a consultant cardiologist in Bamako, providing specialized cardiovascular care and supporting the development of cardiology services in a region where the burden of cardiovascular disease is rapidly increasing. His clinical and research work focuses on the epidemiology, diagnosis, and management of cardiovascular diseases within African populations, particularly in resource-limited settings.
Throughout his career, Prof. Dembélé has contributed to numerous scientific publications and collaborative research projects addressing major cardiovascular health challenges in sub-Saharan Africa. His areas of interest include hypertension, heart failure, cardiomyopathies, cardiovascular complications of infectious diseases, and the broader epidemiology of cardiovascular disease in African populations. As Country Lead for Mali in the Amyloidosis Africa Initiative, Prof. Dembélé supports efforts to increase awareness and recognition of cardiac amyloidosis among healthcare professionals in the region. His involvement contributes to expanding collaboration, promoting education, and encouraging research efforts aimed at improving early diagnosis and understanding of cardiac amyloidosis across the African continent.
