Dr. Abigail Gomes is a medical doctor based in Luanda, Angola, with a growing interest in cardiovascular medicine and clinical leadership. She currently serves as Country Coordinator for Angola within the Amyloidosis Africa initiative, supporting efforts to improve awareness, education, and early recognition of cardiac amyloidosis in the region.

Dr. Gomes completed her Doctor of Medicine (MD) at Universidade Jean Piaget de Angola, where she developed a strong clinical foundation in internal medicine and cardiovascular care. During her clinical training at Hospital do Prenda, she gained practical experience in patient management across multiple specialties, including internal medicine, pediatrics, cardiology, and emergency care, contributing to clinical assessments, diagnosis, and treatment planning.

In addition to her clinical training, Dr. Gomes has demonstrated leadership and commitment to cardiovascular education. She previously served as Vice President of the Academic League of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery, where she coordinated educational activities, supported research initiatives, and promoted engagement among medical students interested in cardiovascular medicine.

Dr. Gomes holds BLS, ACLS, and ITLS certifications, reflecting her dedication to emergency and acute cardiovascular care. Her professional interests include interventional cardiology, clinical research, and improving cardiovascular health outcomes in underserved populations.

Through her role with Amyloidosis Africa, Dr. Gomes contributes to strengthening clinician networks in Angola and supporting continental collaboration aimed at improving the recognition, diagnosis, and research of cardiac amyloidosis across Africa.
